Man Arrested After Fatal Road Crash Claims Life of Young Boy in Cornwall

A tragic road accident on a key route in southwest England has resulted in the death of a young boy and left multiple people injured, police have confirmed.

The collision occurred on Friday morning along the A30 near Connor Downs, close to Hayle in Cornwall, involving several vehicles. Emergency services were called shortly before 11:00 BST, and the road was closed for about 12 hours while investigators examined the scene.

An eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while a five-year-old boy sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition in hospital.

Two women in the same vehicle were also injured, including one elderly passenger who suffered serious harm. Another woman involved in the crash was treated at hospital and later discharged.

Authorities said a man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. He also sustained minor injuries and has been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Police from Devon and Cornwall are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward, as specialist collision investigators work to determine the cause of the crash.

Officials stressed that the investigation is still at an early stage and urged the public to avoid speculation while evidence is being reviewed.
