Lagos Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises to 8, 26 Rescued

At least eight people have died and 26 others have been rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos State on Thursday.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the updated casualty figures, stating that the building, located along Old Ojo Road near Alakija Bus Stop, collapsed around 11:37 a.m.

According to LASEMA, emergency teams recovered eight bodies, including that of a baby girl, while 26 victims were rescued alive.

Rescue operations are still ongoing as emergency responders continue searching through the rubble for possible survivors.

The operation involves several agencies, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Navy, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Authorities have urged residents to stay away from the scene to allow rescue teams to work safely.
