A young businessman, Isma’il Makaye, has died under unclear circumstances at the residence of his girlfriend, a popular Kano-based TikTok personality known as Fati Cele, in Danbare, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
Makaye, who was involved in the cosmetics business in the Hotoro Tishanma area of Kano, was reportedly found dead in the early hours of Friday, leading to a police investigation.
A friend of the deceased, Hassan Mohammed, who went to the scene with police officers, said Makaye was already dead when they arrived.
He said the body was taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and later referred to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Hassan explained that Makaye and Fati Cele had been in a relationship for over two years. They reportedly separated temporarily after Makaye got married but later reconciled.
According to him, Makaye’s phones and car keys were found at the scene. He also claimed that the deceased had injuries on his head and there were signs of bleeding, raising suspicions that he may have been attacked.
Makaye was buried on Friday at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki according to Islamic rites.
The incident has sparked reactions on social media, with many users calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Fati Cele, originally from Borno State, is known for her TikTok videos and dance performances in Sabon Gari, Kano.
As of the time of the report, the Kano State Police Command had not released an official statement, and investigations were still ongoing.
