The Kano State Government has approved about ₦1.5 billion to organize a mass wedding programme involving 3,000 couples across the state.
This was disclosed by the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, during a briefing on Monday.
He explained that the funds will cover several aspects of the programme, including:
Purchase of furniture and household items
Food supplies
Clothing materials for couples
Payment of dowries
A ₦100,000 startup grant for each bride
According to him, over 5,000 people applied for the programme, but only 3,000 will be selected after medical screening.
The screening, carried out with the State Ministry of Health, includes tests for:
HIV
Hepatitis
Pregnancy
Genotype
Other sexually transmitted diseases
Daurawa said the medical checks began on May 8, 2026, covering applicants from 24 of the state’s 44 local government areas.
He added that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is expected to announce the official date for the mass wedding ceremony once preparations are completed.
