At least 10 people, among them senior Lebanese military personnel, were killed on Saturday in a series of Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities.
The Lebanese Armed Forces confirmed that a brigadier general, a captain, and a soldier died when an Israeli strike targeted a military vehicle on the Khardali–Nabatieh road. The incident marks one of the deadliest attacks on Lebanese army personnel since the latest escalation of hostilities began.
Israel's military stated that the strike occurred in what it described as an "active combat zone," adding that movement in such areas requires prior coordination. Israeli officials said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack, calling it a serious violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam described the strike as a "heinous crime" and expressed condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.
In a separate attack, six civilians were reportedly killed and four others injured when Israeli warplanes struck the village of Saksakieh in southern Lebanon. Another person was killed in a drone strike targeting a vehicle in the Deir al-Zahrani area.
The attacks came despite ongoing efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire reached through US-mediated negotiations. Lebanese officials accused Israel of undermining diplomatic attempts to end the conflict, while Israel has continued to cite security concerns and alleged ceasefire violations.
Meanwhile, the armed group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for an attack on an Israeli Merkava tank near the border, saying it used an armed drone and achieved a direct hit.
Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has persisted despite ceasefire agreements announced in recent months. Lebanese health authorities say thousands of people have been killed or wounded since the conflict intensified in March.
The latest developments underscore the continuing instability along the Israel-Lebanon border, where clashes and air strikes have repeatedly threatened efforts to secure a lasting truce.
