The United Nations children’s agency UNICEF says at least one Palestinian child has been killed every day on average in Gaza for more than eight months since a ceasefire was announced.
UNICEF spokesperson James Elder described the truce as a “cruel and deadly illusion,” saying continued attacks have prevented the ceasefire from protecting children.
According to UNICEF, Israeli forces have killed at least 265 Palestinian children since October 2025, while more than 400 children have been injured, many suffering severe wounds.
Elder said children have been killed in homes, schools and public areas, including while playing football or fishing.
He cited recent cases including a 2-year-old boy killed by gunfire, a 13-year-old boy killed inside his tent, and a 5-year-old boy killed alongside his father in an air strike.
UNICEF warned that many wounded children urgently need medical evacuation, while restrictions on medicine and supplies are increasing the risk of infections and further complications.
“The suffering does not end with those killed,” Elder said, adding that fear, loss and violence have become part of everyday life for Gaza’s children.
Palestinian health authorities say Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023 have killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 173,000, according to figures cited in the report.
UNICEF also reported hundreds of children killed and injured in Lebanon amid renewed regional tensions.
