Several Iranian oil tankers have crossed the United States blockade line in the Strait of Hormuz, marking Iran’s first crude oil exports in two months, according to maritime tracking data.
The development comes as the United States and Iran prepare to begin new negotiations aimed at ending their war. The talks are expected to start after both sides sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as part of a framework agreement.
Tanker tracking service TankerTrackers reported that two vessels belonging to the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), Diona and Hero 2, carrying about 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil, crossed the blockade zone on Tuesday.
Another NITC tanker, Sonia I, carrying around 1 million barrels of oil, also passed the US Navy’s blockade line in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday.
The planned talks will focus on Iran’s nuclear programme and a possible roadmap for lifting international sanctions. Reports say the US may allow Iran to resume oil and fuel sales immediately after the agreement is signed, including access to banking, shipping, and insurance services.
The negotiations are expected to continue for 60 days, with the aim of reaching a final settlement and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
