Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says major progress has been achieved in negotiations aimed at ending the war, but the implementation of a ceasefire in Lebanon will be the main test for the agreement.
Araghchi praised mediation efforts by Qatar and Pakistan, saying discussions in Switzerland resulted in steps toward ending hostilities, including plans related to oil exports, frozen assets, and reconstruction efforts.
Iran-US Talks Continue Despite Disagreement
The first round of high-level technical talks between Iran and the United States ended in Switzerland, with both sides agreeing to continue technical discussions.
Iranian officials said the talks focused on monitoring the implementation of a memorandum signed between Tehran and Washington.
Iran’s delegation reportedly objected to continuing broader discussions after US officials made statements Tehran considered threatening.
Lebanon Ceasefire Linked to Future Agreement
Iran says the success of further negotiations depends on ending the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon.
A joint mechanism involving Lebanon was created to help prevent military incidents and support the ceasefire process.
Mediators said the parties agreed to form a high-level committee and working groups covering nuclear issues, sanctions, and monitoring arrangements.
Strait of Hormuz Security Discussed
Officials said a communication channel is being created to prevent misunderstandings and ensure safe passage for commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has warned it will respond to any violations of the agreement and said its armed forces remain prepared.
Final Deal Expected Within 60 Days
The parties reportedly agreed on a roadmap toward a final agreement within 60 days, including discussions on sanctions relief, economic measures, and long-term security arrangements.
However, continued fighting in Lebanon remains the biggest obstacle threatening the diplomatic process.
