Iran Leave Thank-You Note in LA Locker Room After Belgium Draw

Iran’s national football team left a handwritten message in their SoFi Stadium locker room thanking Los Angeles for its hospitality during the 2026 FIFA World Cup after their 0-0 draw with Belgium kept their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

Los Angeles hosted Iran’s first two Group G matches, with the team returning to their base in Tijuana, Mexico between games.

The message, released by the Iranian Football Federation, said: “From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast.”

The team added: “Thank you Los Angeles for your hospitality. We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and leave with dignity.”

Iran also thanked their supporters for giving their “heart, voice and soul” during the tournament and ended the note with a call for peace, respect and friendship among nations.

Iran has been based in Tijuana throughout the tournament and has travelled to the United States for matches due to restrictions affecting their stay. Iranian coach Amir Ghalenoei has criticised the arrangements, saying his team has faced challenges other teams have not experienced.

Iran, who drew 2-2 with New Zealand in their opening match at SoFi Stadium, will play their final group game against Egypt in Seattle.
