The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, has ordered Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Metro Area Command to end robbery activities in Abuja city centre within two weeks or face sanctions.
CP Sanusi gave the order during a meeting with 17 DPOs under the Metro Area Command in Abuja over the weekend.
He said the directive was aimed at reviewing the current security situation and strengthening strategies to tackle emerging security threats in the area.
The police commissioner said the move became necessary following increasing security challenges, including street robbery, vehicle theft, “one chance” robbery, and motorists driving against traffic.
He also raised concerns over the activities of commercial motorcyclists operating on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, illegal parking on highways, and traffic congestion.
Sanusi directed the DPOs to ensure that these crimes are brought to an end within two weeks, warning that officers who fail to comply would face disciplinary action.
He instructed the Area Commander Metro and all DPOs to focus on improving security in the city centre, while he personally handles security challenges in Abuja suburbs.
The commissioner stressed that the police command would not tolerate negligence and directed officers to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with the order.
He urged residents to support police operations by providing timely and credible information through nearby police divisions or the command’s emergency lines.
