Suspected bandits have killed the Chief Imam of Kuda-Kuda village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, while several residents were abducted during the attack.
The cleric, identified as Imam Audu, was killed alongside three other people after the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of Thursday.
Residents said the gunmen arrived around 12:58 a.m. and operated for nearly two hours, shooting sporadically, rustling livestock, and forcing villagers to flee for safety.
A resident said the attackers moved from house to house, abducting people, mostly married women.
Three victims who sustained gunshot injuries were taken to a hospital in Sokoto for treatment, while residents expressed fears over their condition.
The deceased were identified as Chief Imam Liman Audu, Yahaya Hasanu, Zahara Mu’azu, and Ibrahim Dayyabu.
Sources said the attackers first invaded the Chief Imam’s residence and killed him before confronting three young men, whom they ordered to follow them into the forest. The youths were reportedly killed after refusing to comply.
Residents criticised the absence of security intervention during the attack, saying Kuda-Kuda community has suffered repeated bandit attacks over the years.
One resident said the latest incident was the 11th attack on the community, adding that villagers remain vulnerable despite repeated calls for protection.
Efforts to get comments from the Sokoto State Police Command and the state government’s security adviser were unsuccessful.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in eastern Sokoto, where residents continue to call for increased security presence to protect lives and property.
