Armed bandits have killed three people and set several houses ablaze during an attack on Pissa village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident on Saturday, saying the attack occurred around 9:00 a.m. when the gunmen invaded the community.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the attackers opened fire on residents, killing three people before torching homes in the village.
He added that security forces, including the military, responded quickly and engaged the assailants, though details of the confrontation were still unclear at the time of the report.
“The report received indicated that suspected bandits invaded Pissa village in Borgu LGA. Three persons were reportedly killed during the attack, and some houses were set ablaze,” the statement said.
Authorities also noted that further information on casualties and the outcome of the security response is still being gathered.
The attack comes amid rising insecurity in parts of Niger State, particularly in rural communities within Borgu Local Government Area, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted villages.
Police assured residents that operations are ongoing to restore calm and prevent further attacks.
