Zazzau Emirate Suspends Village Head Over Alleged Inheritance Fraud

The Zazzau Emirate Council has suspended a village head accused of cheating and exploiting community members in the sharing of inheritance.

In a statement issued by the emirate’s Media and Publicity Officer, Abdullahi Aliyu Kwarbai, the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, warned district heads against exploiting subjects, particularly in matters relating to inheritance and estate distribution.

The emir also directed district heads to closely monitor the activities of village heads and their scribes to ensure fairness and accountability in their dealings with the people.

According to the statement, the emirate council recently concluded deliberations on a longstanding inheritance dispute from the Matarawa community in Kudan District.

The case, which appeared before the council for the third time under its Alternative Dispute Resolution process, involved allegations that some rightful heirs were denied their shares, while others unlawfully benefited from the estate of a deceased person.

Following investigations, the council ordered the immediate suspension of the village head involved and directed the recovery of all money wrongly allocated to individuals not entitled to the inheritance.

The statement added that after recovering the funds, the Emir handed them over to the district heads of Kudan and Hunkuyi with instructions to return to Matarawa and supervise a fresh distribution.

The redistribution, according to the emir, must strictly comply with Islamic inheritance principles as prescribed in the Holy Qur’an.
