Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the killing of one of the teachers abducted during an attack on schools in Oyo State, describing the act as “barbaric” and vowing that all remaining victims will be rescued.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, armed bandits invaded schools in the Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area, abducting teachers, students, and pupils from multiple schools in the area.
The President said security agencies have intensified operations to locate the kidnappers, rescue the victims, and arrest everyone connected to the attack. He also commended the efforts of the police and intelligence teams deployed to the area.
Tinubu expressed sympathy to the families affected by the incident and praised Seyi Makinde for steps taken to address the crisis.
The President further stated that the Inspector-General of Police is personally supervising the operation, adding that authorities expect significant progress soon.
Tinubu also renewed calls for the creation of state police, saying incidents of kidnapping and insecurity highlight the need for stronger local security structures across Nigeria.
