At least 39 people were killed and dozens injured after a series of Israeli airstrikes and artillery attacks hit several areas across southern Lebanon on Saturday, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health.
Lebanese authorities said the attacks targeted residential neighborhoods, villages, and civilian infrastructure in the south, Mount Lebanon, and the Bekaa Valley, despite an April 16 ceasefire agreement reportedly brokered by the United States.
One of the deadliest strikes reportedly hit the town of Saksakiyeh in southern Lebanon, where seven people were killed and 15 others wounded, including children. Rescue teams continued search operations in damaged residential buildings following the attack.
Additional strikes were reported in the Tyre district town of Bedyas, where one civilian was killed and several others injured, including women and children. In the Chouf region, three people died after a vehicle was struck on a main road.
Lebanon’s National News Agency also reported air raids in Nabatieh and other southern areas, with drone attacks and bombardments causing further casualties and destruction.
The Lebanese Health Ministry said many of the victims were civilians, while Israel claimed the operations targeted Hezbollah positions and military infrastructure.
The latest escalation comes amid growing tensions over repeated alleged violations of the ceasefire agreement reached last month following broader regional mediation efforts.
