Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of continuing military activity despite Kyiv’s proposal for a ceasefire, saying Ukrainian forces will respond accordingly if attacks persist.
In a statement posted on Telegram, Zelenskyy said Russian forces had not reduced their operations and continued strikes across multiple regions of Ukraine.
“Russia has not stopped any of its military activity. Unfortunately, it has not ceased. Ukraine will respond in a reciprocal manner,” he said.
He added that Russian attacks were reported in at least seven Ukrainian regions even after Kyiv proposed a ceasefire that was expected to take effect at midnight.
Despite the ongoing hostilities, Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine remains open to peace efforts and continues to seek an end to the war on terms that preserve national dignity and sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry had earlier announced a temporary ceasefire window scheduled for May 8–9. However, Ukraine says fighting has not stopped in practice.
Kyiv also indicated it would implement its own ceasefire arrangement starting Wednesday, though conditions on the ground remain tense and unstable.
The conflicting announcements highlight continuing distrust between both sides, as diplomatic efforts to pause the war struggle to gain traction.
