Police Kill Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Abducted Man in Oyo Operation

Security operatives in Oyo State have neutralised three suspected kidnappers and rescued a kidnapped victim during a coordinated operation in the Oke-Ogun axis of the state.

According to the state police command, the operation took place in Otu community after a distress call was received from local hunters who were reportedly attacked by armed men during a hunting expedition on May 25, 2026.

A joint response team made up of police officers, local hunters, and other security agencies was immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the suspected kidnappers engaged the team in a gun battle.

Police authorities said the attackers were overpowered due to superior firepower, resulting in the death of three suspects. One kidnapped victim, identified as a 50-year-old man abducted earlier from Okaka, was rescued during the operation.

The victim reportedly sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. One of the participating local hunters also sustained injuries and is currently receiving care.

Security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle without ammunition, a single-barrel gun, and a machete from the scene.

The police command commended the operation, describing it as part of ongoing efforts to intensify the fight against kidnapping and violent crime across the state, while urging residents to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies.
