A student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, Wendy Achumba, has been killed in what authorities are describing as a suspected attack by unknown assailants.
According to reports, the victim, who had completed her midwifery programme and was undergoing post-basic training, was discovered dead in her off-campus apartment on Thursday.
She originally hails from Isiala-Ngwa in Abia State, though full details surrounding the circumstances of her death remain unclear at this stage.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that officers were deployed to the scene after receiving a report. The body was later recovered and deposited in a morgue for preservation and further examination.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye said preliminary investigations have begun to determine what led to the killing and to identify those responsible.
He also confirmed that one suspect has already been taken into custody and is currently being questioned.
Authorities have urged students and residents in the area to remain calm, assuring the public that efforts are ongoing to ensure that everyone involved in the crime is brought to justice.
