Security forces under Operation Fansan Yamma have killed five suspected terrorists and rescued 31 abducted civilians during coordinated military operations across parts of Zamfara and Katsina States.
According to military authorities, the operations involved both air and ground offensives targeting known terrorist hideouts, leading to the destruction of several camps as well as the recovery of firearms, motorcycles, and ammunition used by the armed groups.
In Zamfara State, troops acting on intelligence and supported by air interdiction carried out a raid along the Bagega–Kawaye axis in Anka Local Government Area. The operation led to the rescue of 31 kidnapped persons who had been held for several weeks in captivity.
The freed victims reportedly came from communities across Zamfara and Sokoto States, including Gummi, Anka, Wasagu, and Bukuyyum local government areas. Authorities confirmed they have since received medical attention and are being prepared for reunification with their families.
In a separate engagement within Zamfara, troops clashed with armed groups around the Maradun and Gidan Dan Jaja axis, killing two militants on the spot, dismantling camps, and seizing locally made weapons and motorcycles used by the attackers.
Meanwhile, in Katsina State, soldiers intercepted armed men moving through Ruwan Godiya and Sayaya Road in Matazu Local Government Area, believed to be en route for an attack. A firefight ensued, resulting in the death of three terrorists and the recovery of ammunition and motorcycles.
One of those killed was reportedly linked to a well-known bandit commander operating in the region.
Military authorities reaffirmed that ongoing operations are aimed at sustaining pressure on armed groups and restoring stability across the North-West, promising continued offensives until terrorist networks are dismantled.
