Mexican Airlines Impose Travel Restrictions on Passengers from Ebola-Affected Central African Countries

Mexican airlines have introduced temporary travel restrictions on passengers coming from certain Central African nations following a renewed Ebola outbreak in the region.

Aeromexico, along with low-cost carriers Viva and Volaris, announced that travellers who have been in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), or South Sudan within the past 21 days will not be allowed to enter Mexico by air. The measures are expected to remain in place for about 60 days.

The decision comes as Mexico prepares to host international visitors for the upcoming World Cup, which begins in less than two weeks. The DRC national team, which has qualified for the tournament, is scheduled to play matches in both the United States and Mexico.

Health authorities have reported a worsening Ebola situation in the DRC, with dozens of confirmed deaths and hundreds of suspected cases since mid-May. The outbreak is linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or treatment.

Officials say the travel restrictions are a precautionary measure aimed at reducing the risk of cross-border transmission during a period of increased global movement.
