Tens of thousands of people marched through Madrid on Saturday demanding the resignation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, following a series of corruption allegations linked to his government and close associates.
The demonstration, organised in part by the far-right VOX party, brought together an estimated 40,000 to 80,000 participants, according to officials and organisers. Protesters filled central streets carrying Spanish flags and banners calling for the government to resign, in what they described as a “March for Dignity.”
While the rally was mostly peaceful, tensions escalated when a small group attempted to breach security barriers near the Moncloa Palace, where the prime minister resides. Police intervened, detaining several masked individuals and arresting at least three people, with seven officers reported injured during clashes.
Opposition figures from the People’s Party and VOX also joined the demonstration, which has been fuelled by ongoing investigations and political controversy surrounding members of Sánchez’s circle. These include corruption and influence-peddling allegations involving former officials, which the prime minister and his allies have dismissed as politically motivated attacks.
Authorities said the protest reflected growing political tension in Spain as legal probes and scandals continue to shape public debate around the current government.
