Kebbi Police Arrest Four Over Alleged ₦8.6m Hajj Fraud

Authorities in Kebbi State have arrested four people over an alleged ₦8.6 million Hajj seat fraud involving fake pilgrimage arrangements for the 2026 Hajj exercise.

Police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar said the main suspect, Aminu Hassan Zauro, alongside three others, was apprehended after the Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency discovered irregularities in the records of intending pilgrims.

Investigators alleged that the suspects collected millions of naira from victims with promises of securing Hajj seats despite lacking official access to pilgrimage slots. Police also said fake Hajj materials, including bags and counterfeit medical cards, were recovered during the operation.

The command added that four additional suspects remain at large, while Commissioner of Police Bello Sani urged intending pilgrims to work only with accredited officials and the state pilgrims agency to avoid scams.
