At least seven people have been killed in renewed Israeli air strikes across Lebanon despite a recently extended United States-backed ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
The attacks targeted several areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, including the Baalbek district, where an apartment building strike reportedly killed a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement along with his teenage daughter.
Lebanese health authorities said the latest violence has pushed the overall death toll from Israeli attacks since March above 3,200, with thousands more wounded.
The escalation comes only days after Lebanese and Israeli officials held talks in Washington that resulted in a 45-day extension of the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, cross-border hostilities and air strikes have continued.
Israel said its military targeted Hezbollah-linked sites, including weapons storage facilities and operational positions, claiming the attacks were aimed at preventing planned assaults on Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it launched drone and missile attacks against Israeli military targets in southern Lebanon in response to the strikes.
Residents in several Lebanese towns were ordered to evacuate ahead of Israeli bombardments, adding to a growing humanitarian crisis. Aid groups estimate that more than one million people have been displaced by the ongoing conflict.
