Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, Brigadier General Esmail Qa’ani, says the Palestinian resistance movement will eventually achieve the liberation of Jerusalem, drawing comparisons with past resistance victories in Iran and Lebanon.
Speaking on the anniversaries of two major historical events, Qa’ani referred to the liberation of the Iranian city of Khorramshahr during the 1982 Iran-Iraq War and Hezbollah’s 2000 victory that forced Israeli troops to withdraw from southern Lebanon after 22 years of occupation.
He said the recapture of Khorramshahr on May 24, 1982, during Operation Beit al-Moqaddas became a symbol of resistance and determination for the Iranian people. Qa’ani also described Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon on May 25, 2000, as a humiliating defeat for the Israeli military.
“During the withdrawal, Israeli forces abandoned their positions and equipment while retreating,” he stated.
Qa’ani added that the ongoing resistance movements in Palestine and Lebanon would continue on the same path and could eventually lead to what he described as the liberation of al-Quds (Jerusalem).
Khorramshahr had been under Iraqi occupation for 578 days before Iranian forces regained control of the city. Meanwhile, Israel ended its military presence in southern Lebanon in 2000 following sustained attacks by Hezbollah fighters.
