Hamas has strongly criticized the European Union's decision to expand sanctions against members of Palestinian resistance movements, arguing that the bloc is unfairly targeting Palestinian leaders while failing to address Israel's actions in Gaza.
In a statement released on Saturday, the group condemned the EU's move to impose additional restrictions on members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, describing the decision as politically motivated and one-sided.
According to Hamas, the sanctions reflect what it views as a double standard in the international community's approach to the Palestinian issue. The group argued that punitive measures are being directed at Palestinian political figures while allegations of violations committed during the Gaza conflict receive insufficient attention.
Hamas said the sanctions would not alter its position or weaken Palestinian demands for self-determination, statehood, and an end to occupation. The movement also maintained that resistance against occupation is recognized under international norms and law.
The group urged European leaders to reassess their policies toward the conflict and to pursue what it described as a more balanced approach that holds all parties accountable.
The criticism follows the European Union's announcement that ten members of Hamas' senior political leadership would face asset freezes and travel restrictions. Under the measures, EU-based individuals and organizations are prohibited from providing funds or economic resources to those listed.
The latest dispute comes amid continuing international concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where prolonged fighting has caused extensive destruction, mass displacement, and severe shortages of essential supplies. Diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting resolution to the conflict remain ongoing.
