Armed men have abducted 10 people from the Yashikira Emir’s Palace in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State following a coordinated overnight attack that also targeted a police station in the area.
According to a statement by the Kwara State Police Command, the attackers struck around 2:00 a.m., simultaneously assaulting the palace and the Yashikira Divisional Police Headquarters.
During the raid, part of the palace was set on fire, while 10 individuals were taken away to an unknown location. Police confirmed that the attack on the police station was repelled by officers on duty.
Security forces, including police tactical units, military personnel, vigilantes, and forest guards, have since launched coordinated search operations across surrounding forests to rescue the abducted victims and track down the attackers.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that security agencies are intensifying surveillance and intelligence-led operations in vulnerable communities, pledging to dismantle criminal networks responsible for the attack.
The incident adds to recent security concerns in the region, following earlier attacks involving killings and kidnappings in parts of Kwara State.
Vanguard News reported that security operations are ongoing as authorities work to restore safety and prevent further attacks in affected communities.
