The Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, has issued a security alert warning of possible terrorist attacks during the upcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebrations.
In a statement released on Monday in Maiduguri, the military said intelligence reports suggest that remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) may attempt to target civilians in crowded public areas.
According to the spokesperson of the operation, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the groups could exploit the festive period to carry out isolated attacks using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), particularly in densely populated locations.
The military therefore advised residents across the North-East to avoid large gatherings where possible and consider holding Eid prayers close to their homes or familiar areas.
It also urged the public to remain highly vigilant in crowded places such as markets, motor parks, banking halls, and prayer grounds.
Residents were further encouraged to report any suspicious persons, unattended objects, or unusual movements to the nearest security agencies, including military checkpoints and police stations.
The command stressed the importance of cooperation with security personnel during patrols and screening operations, while also advising against unnecessary night movement in areas with limited security presence.
Operation HADIN KAI also warned against spreading unverified information that could cause panic, calling on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to support security awareness efforts.
Despite the warning, the military assured residents that troops remain on high alert and fully prepared to prevent any attacks, maintaining control of the security situation across the region.
