Governor Radda Mourns as 12 Die in Kano–Katsina Road Crash

Twelve people have died following a fatal road accident along the Kano–Katsina Highway in northern Nigeria, officials confirmed on Monday.

The crash occurred on Sunday evening at about 8:30 p.m. near Gidan Mutum Daya and involved a head-on collision between a trailer and a passenger vehicle operating under a Public–Private Partnership with the Katsina State Transport Authority.

According to a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, six victims, including the driver, died instantly at the scene, while six others later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Two injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at Katsina General Hospital, while five others with minor injuries have already been discharged.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, described the incident as tragic and deeply painful, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic safety rules to prevent similar accidents.

He also prayed for the deceased and noted that the tragedy occurred during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, a sacred Islamic period, making the loss even more distressing for many families.

Authorities continue to emphasize road safety awareness as accidents remain a recurring issue on major highways in the region.
