Saudi Arabia has officially announced Tuesday, May 26, 2026, as the Day of Arafat and Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as Eid-el-Adha celebration day following the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon.
The Saudi Supreme Court confirmed that Monday, May 18, marks the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH after receiving verified moon sighting reports from witnesses across the kingdom.
According to the court, the Day of Arafat — regarded as the peak of the annual Hajj pilgrimage — will be observed on May 26, while Muslims worldwide will celebrate Eid-el-Adha the next day.
The court also offered prayers for King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continued service to pilgrims visiting the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.
Saudi authorities further prayed for a peaceful and successful Hajj exercise and for the continued security and prosperity of the kingdom.
Haramain Info, the official account associated with the Two Holy Mosques, also confirmed the moon sighting on X, stating that Eid-el-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, Insha Allah.
Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, earlier declared Monday, May 18, 2026, as the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
Dhul Hijjah is the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the holiest periods in Islam. The month features major spiritual activities including Hajj, the Day of Arafat, and Eid-el-Adha celebrations observed by Muslims around the world.
