The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says the ongoing war involving Iran could worsen global poverty significantly.
The conflict has driven up oil, gas, and fertiliser prices worldwide.
UN officials warn that more than 30 million people in about 160 countries could fall into poverty or economic hardship, even if the war stops soon.
The crisis is partly due to disruptions in key energy routes like the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for global oil and gas transport.
Many developing countries in Africa, Asia, and small island nations are expected to be the hardest hit.
Rising costs are already forcing some countries to introduce fuel rationing and reduce working hours.
The UNDP estimates that about $6 billion in subsidies would be needed to support vulnerable populations.
Officials warn the situation could also reduce remittances from workers abroad and increase political instability.
