UAE Astronomers Capture Rare Daytime Crescent of Dhul Qa’dah

The sighting was recorded on April 18 at approximately 10:00am local time, when the moon was just over 16 hours old and positioned close to the Sun. Observing such a young crescent during daylight is considered extremely challenging due to the brightness of the sky, which often obscures faint lunar features.

The image was taken at the International Astronomy Center observatory in Abu Dhabi, where astronomers used advanced optical instruments and precise calculations to locate and capture the الهلال.

Experts described the observation as a rare technical feat, emphasizing that such success depends on a combination of clear atmospheric conditions, high-powered equipment, and accurate astronomical data.

Dhul Qa’dah, the 11th month of the Islamic calendar, is one of the four sacred months in Islam. It precedes the Hajj pilgrimage season and plays an important role in determining key religious dates.
