French authorities have arrested a man suspected of involvement in a deadly 1982 attack on a Jewish restaurant in Paris, reviving one of the country’s longest-running terrorism investigations.
The suspect, identified as Mahmoud Khader Abed Adra, was taken into custody by France’s anti-terrorism prosecutors on April 16, 2026. He is believed to have played a role in the attack on the historic Chez Jo Goldenberg restaurant, located in the Marais district of Paris.
The attack, which occurred on August 9, 1982, saw gunmen storm the restaurant, throwing grenades and opening fire on diners. The assault left six people dead and more than 20 others injured, making it one of the deadliest antisemitic attacks in France since World War II.
Investigators have long linked the attack to the Abu Nidal Organization, a militant Palestinian group active during that period. However, for decades, several suspects evaded arrest, with some believed to have fled Europe.
French prosecutors have intensified efforts in recent years to bring those responsible to justice. The arrest of Adra marks a significant breakthrough in the case and could pave the way for long-awaited trials.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the suspect will face immediate charges or extradition proceedings, but the development signals renewed momentum in a case that has remained unresolved for over four decades.
