At least 29 people have been killed after gunmen attacked a community gathering at a football pitch in northeastern Nigeria, local authorities have confirmed.
The incident took place in Guyaku village in Gombi local government area of Adamawa State, where residents had gathered for a football match. Witnesses said the attackers stormed the area and opened fire on the crowd, causing widespread panic and casualties.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri visited the scene and described the attack as tragic and unacceptable, confirming the death toll and pledging support for affected families.
Residents reported that the assailants operated for hours, burning homes, places of worship, and vehicles, leaving significant destruction in their wake.
Authorities have linked the нападение to suspected Boko Haram militants, who have carried out repeated attacks across northeastern Nigeria in recent years.
