INEC Raises Concern as 116,745 Voters Fail to Collect PVCs in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that 116,745 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) belonging to newly registered voters remain uncollected in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The commission's Administrative Secretary in Lagos, Mrs Adenike Tadese, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.

Tadese explained that INEC received a total of 177,295 PVCs for residents who registered during the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in 2025.

However, she said only 60,550 cards had been collected by their owners as of Monday, leaving 116,745 PVCs awaiting collection.

She expressed concern over the number of uncollected cards, stressing that eligible voters must obtain their PVCs to participate in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

According to her, the cards are available at INEC offices across the local government areas of Lagos State. She emphasised that registered voters must collect their cards personally, as collection through representatives is not permitted.

The INEC secretary urged political stakeholders and community leaders to intensify efforts to mobilise eligible voters, particularly those who registered in previous exercises but have yet to collect their cards.

She also disclosed that PVCs for residents who completed their registration during the 2026 CVR exercise would soon be ready for collection.

Tadese further appealed to voters to maintain orderliness during the collection process, assuring residents that the commission remained committed to conducting free, fair and credible elections.

She called on political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to adhere to electoral guidelines and ensure peaceful campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
