Police Pay N9m Compensation to Families of 21 Deceased Officers in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has presented cheques totalling ₦9,054,644.57 to the families of 21 deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme.

The cheques were presented by the state Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Wilfred, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police during a ceremony held at the command headquarters in Umuahia on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Wilfred expressed sympathy with the bereaved families, acknowledging that no amount of financial assistance could replace their loved ones or fill the gap left by their deaths.

He said the initiative reflected the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to the welfare of its personnel and its responsibility to support families left behind by officers who died in service.

According to him, the 21 beneficiaries would receive a total of ₦9,054,644.57 through the two welfare schemes.

He urged the families to regard the payment as recognition of the sacrifices made by their loved ones, assuring them that the police force had not forgotten their contributions.

The commissioner also prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved families and asked God to grant the deceased officers eternal rest.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Oyebuchi Gloria, wife of the late Inspector Oyebuchi Henry Ndemeka, expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force and the Abia State Police Command for the support.

She said the financial assistance would help her cater for herself and her children, although it could never replace her late husband's presence.

Another beneficiary also thanked the Federal Government and the police authorities, describing the gesture as valuable support for families who had lost their husbands and fathers.
