UCH Resident Doctors Suspend Strike, Give Management Until October 19 to Act

The Association of Resident Doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has suspended its three-day warning strike and directed members to resume work on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The association announced the suspension in a memorandum issued to members and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Thursday.

The memorandum was jointly signed by the association’s President, Dr Uthman Adedeji, and General Secretary, Dr Mary Awodiji.

According to the statement, the decision followed resolutions reached at an Emergency General Meeting held on October 8.

The association confirmed that the three-day warning strike had been completed, directing members to return to their respective duty posts by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.

It also informed members that further updates would be communicated at specified times in the coming days.

The resident doctors began the warning strike on Monday over persistent electricity outages and severe water shortages around the College of Medicine area of the hospital.

Their demands include the immediate restoration of electricity to the affected area, urgent repairs to faulty circuit breakers serving as backup systems, and a reliable electricity supply across all parts of the hospital.

The association has also issued the UCH management a seven-day ultimatum, running from October 12 to October 19, to address its demands.

It warned that failure to resolve the issues within the stipulated period could lead to an indefinite strike.

The suspension of the warning strike means that resident doctors are expected to resume their duties while the association awaits action from the hospital management on the outstanding demands.
