Kano NDC Petitions INEC Over Omission of Gwarzo, Running Mate from 2027 Candidate List

Kano NDC Petitions INEC Over Omission of Gwarzo, Running Mate from 2027 Candidate List

The Kano State chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging it to reinstate its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate on the list of candidates for the 2027 governorship election.

The state chairman of the party, Hussaini Isah Mai Riga, disclosed that the matter had been escalated to the NDC’s national secretariat, which subsequently engaged INEC over the omission.

According to Mai Riga, the commission has assured the party that it would investigate the matter and take appropriate action if the omission was found to have resulted from an error.

“We have written to our National Secretariat, and they have escalated it to INEC. INEC said it would investigate and, if it was a mistake, restore our candidates’ status. We are now waiting for its response,” he said.

Gwarzo and his running mate were reportedly excluded from INEC’s final list of candidates for the Kano State governorship election, raising concerns over the NDC’s participation in the 2027 poll.

The party is now awaiting the outcome of the commission’s investigation to determine the next course of action.

INEC’s response is expected to clarify the status of the NDC’s governorship ticket as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
