Three unidentified men have been shot dead during an annual traditional festival in Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred on Monday night, leaving several other participants injured.
According to a source, the violence reportedly followed an earlier attack on a member of a group elsewhere in the community, which allegedly triggered a reprisal attack during the festival.
“Three people were shot dead, while others were injured. Some of those injured were hacked with cutlasses,” the source said.
Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, described the incident as a suspected cult-related attack.
The platform identified two of the victims as Isaac, popularly known as Ziko, and another man known as Baby Police, saying the two were close friends. It said the identity of the third victim had not yet been established.
Naija Confra, however, said it would not describe the victims as cult members without sufficient evidence.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comment, as calls to his phone went unanswered. A text message sent to him had also not received a response as of the time of filing the report.
