Daughter of Mechanic, Pure Water Seller Graduates Top of University with 3.96 CGPA.

Nancy Agyeman Duah, the daughter of a mechanic and a sachet water seller, has graduated as the Overall Best Graduating Student of Ho Technical University’s Class of 2025 in Ghana.

Nancy earned a Bachelor of Technology in Hospitality Management with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.96 out of 4.0, the highest recorded at the university.

She grew up in Abuakwa in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, where her father worked as a mechanic and her mother sold sachet water. Despite their modest income, her parents remained committed to supporting her education.

As the cost of tertiary education became increasingly difficult for the family, Nancy received the MTN Bright Scholarship, which helped cover her tuition, accommodation, laptop, and study materials.

Nancy said the scholarship relieved the financial pressure on her family and enabled her to focus more fully on her studies.

She graduated in November 2025, becoming a source of pride for her parents, whose livelihoods had helped keep her in school.

Since graduating, Nancy has started a beauty business offering hair-braiding and lash services while preparing to pursue her ambition of studying law.

The MTN Bright Scholarship, launched in 2017, has supported 1,220 brilliant but financially disadvantaged students across 18 tertiary institutions in Ghana. According to the report, 17 beneficiaries have graduated as valedictorians or best students at their institutions, while 299 obtained first-class honours.
