Army Rescues 10 Kidnap Victims, Foils Abduction Attempts in Zamfara

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims in different parts of Zamfara State.

The Media Information Officer, Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Danja said troops operating in Maru Local Government Area received information on September 27 that terrorists had abducted villagers in Kade Daba Village, Kanoma District.

According to him, the troops quickly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists, rescuing three victims. Further operations led to the rescue of another victim, bringing the total rescued in the operation to four.

In a separate incident the same day, troops conducting a security operation along the Tsafe-Funtua Road in Tsafe Local Government Area heard sporadic gunshots near Kwanoni.

The troops moved towards the area and encountered terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground. They engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee.

Danja said the terrorists had earlier set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants. The occupants, however, managed to escape before the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.

He added that the troops rescued six people from another vehicle that lost control following the gunshots.

The affected vehicle was later towed away from the road to restore the free flow of traffic.

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, commended the troops for their vigilance, swift response and professionalism in protecting civilians along major routes and communities within the task force’s area of responsibility.

He reaffirmed the operation’s commitment to sustained offensive operations against terrorists and to denying them freedom of action across the North-West.

The commander also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security agency or through official channels.
