Zimbabwe Boat Accident Death Toll Rises to 80

Zimbabwe’s national police service says the death toll from a boat accident on Lake Kariba has risen to 80, after rescuers recovered eight more bodies.

The passenger ferry capsized on August 11 on Lake Kariba, one of Africa’s largest artificial lakes. Rescue teams and local boat operators have continued search and recovery operations in the area.

Police announced the latest death toll on Sunday, August 16, as efforts to locate and recover additional victims continued.

The cause of the accident has not yet been fully established.
