Tinubu Praises Hausa People as Pillars of Nigeria’s Unity

President Bola Tinubu has described the Hausa people as “great pillars” who play an important role in promoting Nigeria’s unity and development.

The President made the remarks on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in a message shared on his X account to mark Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace in Katsina State.

Tinubu said the Hausa language has grown into an important language of unity and commerce, not only in Nigeria but across the world.

> “The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria,” the President said.

He congratulated the Hausa community worldwide on the occasion, noting the growing importance of the Hausa language.

Hausa Day, also known as World Hausa Day or Ranar Hausa, is observed every year on August 26. The celebration began as a social media initiative by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari, aimed at promoting the Hausa language online and highlighting its cultural importance.

The observance has since expanded beyond Nigeria, with celebrations reported across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

Hausa is among Nigeria’s major languages and is one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa, with millions of speakers around the world.
