Tinubu Meets Akpabio, Doguwa, Others as 2027 Campaigns Begin

President Bola Tinubu held a series of closed-door meetings with senior political and government officials at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, ahead of the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.

Among those who visited the President were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, House of Representatives member Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake.

Akpabio arrived at the Presidential Villa around 6:12pm, while Doguwa was seen at the President’s office later in the evening. Oyetola and Alake also visited the Villa.

The purpose of the meetings was not disclosed, as none of the officials spoke to journalists after their separate engagements with the President.

The meetings came just hours before the Independent National Electoral Commission’s scheduled commencement of political campaigns for the 2027 general elections on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Oyetola’s visit also came days after his successor as Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
