The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing growing pressure to address grievances arising from its governorship primary, following concerns raised by supporters of former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo.
Sambo’s supporters have expressed disappointment over what they described as the party leadership’s silence on the unresolved issues surrounding the primary election. They are calling for the grievances to be addressed ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite the controversy, Sambo has remained in the APC and has not publicly indicated any plan to leave the party. His decision has reportedly increased pressure on the state leadership to resolve the dispute and prevent further divisions within the party.
Political observers said Sambo’s continued membership of the APC could make it difficult for the party to dismiss his supporters as former members who are simply disgruntled over the outcome of the primary.
Sambo had previously rejected speculation that he was planning to defect, describing himself as one of the founding pillars of the APC.
His continued presence in the party has therefore left the APC with the choice of addressing the grievances or risking deeper internal divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The visit of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to Taraba has also attracted attention amid the situation. Yilwatda recently visited the state to celebrate his birthday and engage with party stakeholders as the APC intensifies preparations for the forthcoming elections.
However, the APC said it was committed to resolving its internal differences and presenting a united front.
The party’s Taraba State Publicity Secretary, Aaron Artimas, said the leadership had inaugurated reconciliation committees across the three senatorial zones to address members’ grievances.
Artimas urged aggrieved members to embrace dialogue and work with the party leadership to strengthen the APC ahead of the elections.
He said the goal was to ensure that the party approached the 2027 elections as a united family.
