ASUU-TSU Gives Taraba Government 14-Day Ultimatum Over Outstanding Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) branch, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Taraba State Government, Governor Agbu Kefas and the university management to implement outstanding provisions of the ASUU/FGN 2025 Agreement.

The branch chairman, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, following resolutions reached at the union’s congress held on August 13, 2026.

According to Mbave, the ultimatum took effect on August 13 and will expire on August 26. He said the decision followed directives and resolutions of ASUU’s National Executive Council over the continued failure to implement applicable provisions of the 2025 agreement.

The union expressed concern over the prolonged delay despite previous communications between ASUU, the university administration, the Governing Council and the Taraba State Government.

ASUU-TSU said it had exercised considerable restraint in the interest of industrial peace and academic stability, but warned that its patience should not be interpreted as acceptance of further delays or a waiver of members’ rights.

The union is demanding the immediate and full implementation of all outstanding provisions of the ASUU/FGN 2025 Agreement, as well as the payment of applicable arrears and financial entitlements accruing from January 2026 to date.

ASUU-TSU stressed that the ultimatum was a formal demand for implementation and not an invitation for another round of open-ended consultations or assurances without concrete action.

The union urged the Taraba State Government, the university’s Governing Council and management to act within the 14-day period to prevent further escalation of the dispute and its potential consequences.

It also called on members of the public and other stakeholders to encourage the government to urgently resolve the matter and ensure full implementation of the applicable provisions of the agreement.
