The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) Chapter, says more than 200 professors and other academic staff have left the university over poor working conditions and the failure to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.
The union has issued a two-week ultimatum to the university authorities and other stakeholders to commence full implementation of the agreement, warning that failure to act could lead to a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike.
ASUU-KASU Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, disclosed this on Monday at a press conference in Kaduna.
He said the agreement, which took effect in January 2026, was yet to be implemented at KASU, despite the union’s repeated appeals to the university management, Governing Council and Kaduna State Government.
According to him, the delay has left KASU academic staff among the least-paid university workers in Nigeria and has contributed to the departure of experienced professors and lecturers.
The union also cited other unresolved issues, including university autonomy, excessive workload, promotion arrears, death benefits, group life insurance, wage awards and pension remittances.
ASUU warned that continued failure to address the issues would lead to the accumulation of salary arrears and further loss of experienced academic staff.
The union appealed to parents, stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene urgently to prevent the threatened strike and preserve industrial harmony at the university.
