The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Samuel Akoade for allegedly killing his mother, Olufunke Akoade, in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. in the Powerline area of the community.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a machete, leaving her with severe injuries that resulted in her death.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident on Monday, saying the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood at her residence.
Police operatives from the Ore Division were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving the report. A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while the scene was photographed and documented as part of the investigation.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene before the arrival of the police but was later arrested following sustained efforts by the operatives.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect remains in police custody.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
The police also urged residents to provide timely and useful information about suspicious activities in their communities.
