Nigerian authorities have arrested social media influencer Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as “KC Luxury,” following the seizure of 184.5kg of cocaine worth nearly $28 million, allegedly destined for the United Kingdom.
The 49-year-old influencer, who has about 700,000 Instagram followers and presents himself online as a businessman dealing in gold and luxury goods, was arrested at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris.
According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the cocaine was discovered concealed in brown boxes at a courier facility in Lagos on 3 August. The agency alleges that Micheal was the Nigerian “arrowhead” of an international drug trafficking network moving cocaine from South America through Nigeria to Europe and Asia.
Authorities also arrested Lawal Mujab Kehinde, 33, a logistics company employee who allegedly helped package the cocaine for export.
The NDLEA said Micheal was carrying more than $12,840 in euros, pounds and naira, along with expensive jewellery, when he was arrested.
The agency further said suspected members of the network in the UK had also been arrested by law enforcement agencies overseas.
Micheal and Kehinde have not been charged in court or publicly commented on the allegations.
NDLEA chairman Buba Marwa said the arrests demonstrated the importance of international cooperation in tackling organised drug trafficking and warned that the agency would continue pursuing suspects involved in the network.
