A Kremlin adviser has warned that drone factories in the United Kingdom producing equipment for Ukraine could potentially be targeted, following Britain’s decision to share long-range missile technology with Kyiv.
Former Russian deputy foreign minister Andrei Fedorov said Moscow could respond to what it views as Britain’s growing military involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war. He suggested that possible responses could include cyberattacks, political measures or unspecified “semi-military” actions against companies manufacturing drones for Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also accused the UK of participating directly in the war by providing missile support to Ukraine, saying the move was “adding fuel to the fire.”
The British government has agreed to declassify blueprints for components of the French-British Storm Shadow/Scalp missile, allowing Ukraine to manufacture more of the weapons domestically. The Scalp missile has a range of about 240km (149 miles) and can strike heavily fortified targets.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, visiting Kyiv, rejected Russia’s criticism, pointing to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has significantly increased its production and use of cheaper drones, which it has deployed against military and economic targets inside Russia.
