The Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) has generated more than ₦20.7 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR) during the first six months of 2026, moving closer to its annual target of ₦39 billion.
Chairman of the agency, Aisha Adamu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Thursday on the agency's achievements between January and June.
According to Adamu, the steady increase in revenue was driven by improved tax administration, enhanced staff capacity, stronger collaboration with key stakeholders, and greater tax compliance by individuals and businesses.
She noted that GIRS has consistently recorded year-on-year growth in revenue collection, adding that the agency is performing better than it did in 2025.
Beyond revenue generation, Adamu said the service has invested heavily in staff development by providing local and international training opportunities, both virtually and physically, to expose employees to global best practices.
She also revealed that GIRS strengthened partnerships with the Gombe State Government, security agencies, and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to improve intelligence gathering and boost tax collection efforts.
In addition, the agency recovered more than four stolen vehicles that were brought to Gombe for registration. The vehicles were handed over to the police, with some already returned to their rightful owners.
Adamu urged residents and business owners to fulfil their tax obligations, describing taxation as a social contract that enables government to provide roads, security, electricity, and other essential public services.
She stressed that paying taxes is a civic responsibility and remains vital to funding development projects across the state.
